Last month, reports stating that songstress Joni Mitchell was in a coma began to surface. A few weeks later, representatives for the singer denied those rumors, saying the singer was awake and able to comprehend what was going on around her. Now, according to an attorney for the "River" singer, it looks like Mitchell will be out of the hospital soon.

The Associated Press reports that the singer, who suffers from Morgellens Disease, is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days. This news comes just days after longtime companion Leslie Morris petitioned to become the singer's conservator, which would give her the power to make health decisions regarding Mitchell. A judge granted Morris that right earlier today, May 4.

Mitchell's camp posted a positive message on April 28 regarding the singer's health.

"Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital," the statement reads. "As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts."

Following the initial reports that Mitchell was in a coma, admirers and musicians shared their support via social media. Decemberists vocalist Colin Meloy, actress Emma Watson and classic rocker Billy Joel all showed some love for the singer.

The folk legend's last album, Shine, came out in 2007. Complications caused by the Morgellons Disease has kept Mitchell out of the performing circuit for a while now.
