Hunter Hayes is only 23 years old, but the country star is already nostalgic for the old days. Fittingly on May 21, today he released his latest happy-go-lucky single "21" just in time to party for all those summer birthdays.

"21" was written by Dallas Davidson, Kelley Lovelace and Ashley Gorley, and the song is all about living it up like you're barely legal. "That's the way that we're doing it / We go big or we go back home / People look at us like we're losing it / Baby we ain't doing nothing wrong / Gonne be up all night / Chasing the sunrise / Like we're wild and young, kids on the run / We're going to party like we just turned 21," he sings in the chorus.

To go along with the live like you're young message, Hayes and the music are perfectly breezy, with a chilled out acoustic guitar and Hayes sounding as bright and youthful as ever.

Since Hayes is just two years removed from his 21st birthday, the release of the song had him reliving his big party night, and as it turns out he was quite the professional.

"I was in New Orleans," Hayes revealed about his birthday in an interview with USA Today. "I played my first headline show in a theater the night before. At midnight, I went out with some friends, members of my team." But, due to professional obligations at the New Orleans Saints game, he kept it lowkey. "I capped it off with one drink. I was proud of my behavior, I must say."
