For a few months now it sure has looked like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were in the process of divorcing, but nobody wanted to believe it. Sadly, the couple issued a statement today confirming that the rumors have indeed been true and that they are working out the details with a mediator to dissolve their marriage.

TMZ was the first to share the official statement which simply says, "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private family matter. Thank you for understanding." Ironically, this announcement comes just one day after the couple's tenth anniversary. Supposedly Affleck and Garner are working to divide up their assets and are expected to formulate a joint custody agreement for their three children.

Rumors first started to circulate back in April that a split was in the works. Aside from Affleck appearing to be going through a difficult time, he blew off both Garner's birthday and Mother's Day; two pretty telling indications that things between them weren't well. In recent weeks Affleck and Garner have been seen together in public regularly but they didn't have their usual affection toward each other.

Are you surprised to hear that these two really are divorcing? Were you hoping that the rumors would end up being just that and that Garner and Affleck's marriage would survive? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
