For over a decade, Coheed and Cambria have channeled their artistic drive not only into their music but into their ongoing science fiction story "The Amory Wars," paired with the progressive rock band's first seven studio albums. Stepping away from their conceptual storyline, the group decided to take an altered direction for their latest LP due out Oct. 9 via 300 Entertainment, The Color Before the Sun.

Color, recorded in Nashville and produced by Jay Joyce, deeply explores the personal thoughts and perspectives of front man Claudio Sanchez. "I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record," he said in a statement, speaking about the change of pace. "I've always said in the past that there's never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it."

Since the band's 2002 debut album The Second Stage Turbine Blade, they've unraveled stories within the fictional universe of Armory Wars, which inspired each and every one of their albums--until now.

Sanchez tells off his enemies as his vocals pair with a pop-guitar anthem in the album's single "You Got Spirit, Kid." "When the world gets pulled out from underneath / Just embrace the fall," he sings. "Go on living that farce / 'Cause nobody gives a f-ck who you are."

Last month, Claudio Sanchez, Travis Stever, Josh Eppard and Zach Cooper joined forces with Funny or Die for a parody ballad that warped Supreme Court Justice Anton Scalia's opposing take on same sex marriage and the Affordable Care Act, notes Rolling Stone. Coheed and Cambria will take on three gigs in Europe where they'll play 2003's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 in its entirety as wel as festival dates planned up until the fall.
