Instead of halting performances and taking a minor health reprieve from the music industry, it seems Dave Grohl's leg injury drove him even further as he's executed electrifying gigs featuring surprise guests throughout North America.Today, his supergroup, Teenage Time Killers, are streaming their first debut EP ahead of it's release, Greatest Hits Vol. 1. Along with the former Nirvana drummer, the line-up consists of Foo Fighter's Pat Smear, Alkaline Trio front man and current Blink-182 member Matt Skiba, Stone Sour and Slipknot's Corey Taylor and former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri.
The metal/punk supergroup is led by Reed Mullin of Corrosion of Conformity, The Birds of Satan's guitarist Mick Murphy and producer John "Lou" Lousteau, notes Consequence of Sound. The album, due out on July 31 via Reprise Records, also boasts rock and roll veterans Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys, Tommy Victor of Danzig and Prong, Lee Ving from Fear and Randy Blythe of Lamb of God among various other musicians. Instrumentals were recorded at Grohl's own 606 Studios in Northridge, California--the Foo Fighters front man played bass on 11 of 20 tracks. Constantly switching up duties, Oliveri tackles the bass on "Ignorant People," Corey Taylor lends his voice to "Egobomb" and Jello Biafra provides vocals for "Ode to Hannity." The album spans a total of 20 tracks, many being covers, including the song by Rudimentary Peni that inspired the group's name, reports NME.
The super group previously released "Hung Out to Dry" and "Barrio," which showcases Matt Skiba's vocals and guitar work from Birna Baker of Minor Threat and Bad Relidion. The latter track incorporates catchy riffs, political statements all wrapped up in a 70s punk sound. "Keep em outta sight," Skiba sings. "They got the guns, they got the knives/ Who needs opportunity? Who needs a chance?"
Appropriately named, crossover thrash LP Greatest Hits Vol. 1 is currently available to stream at NYTimes.com ahead of its official release.
