Joe Jackson, the patriarch of one of the most successful music families in history—including children Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Randy Jackson— has reportedly been entered into a Brazilian hospital after suffering a stroke on the weekend of his birthday.

The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo e-mailed a statement out to various media outlets, acknowledging that Jackson had suffered a stroke and had been entered into the hospital's intensive care unit. The statement also clarified that the music manager was suffering from an irregular heartbeat. The institution hasn't given any other details, such as the future outlook for Jackson, and has declined calls for further comment.

Jackson was in Brazil to celebrate his 87th birthday. There was a large party planned in Sao Paulo to recognize the event, however Jackson never got the chance to arrive, as he had already suffered the stroke and been entered in the hospital.

Jackson first came to prominence as the manager of the Jackson 5, a pop/R&B group comprised of his five sons—Jackie, Tito, Jermaine Marlon and Michael. After that group's success, Michael would of course go on to become perhaps the most successful pop star in history. Joe's daughters LaToya and Janet would achieve pop stardom as well, and youngest son Randy Jackson would find more fame as a producer and host on American Idol. Although it can't be denied that he raised and managed a litany of successful progeny, Joe still inspires controversy due to his admittedly intense treatment of his children.

Stay tuned for further updates on Jackson's health.
