Woodstock wasn't the only memorable rock festival performance Jimi Hendrix boasted throughout his impressive career--the distinguished guitarist performed a rousing gig and reeled in his greatest U.S. crowd at the Atlanta Pop Festival spanning the weekend of July 3-5, 1970. This fall, the prevalent milestone will be applauded with a live album and documentary release.

The film Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church will see its Showtime debut on Sept. 4, offering an exclusive story of the festival's congregation and preparation via organizer and promoter Alex Cooley. Electric Church features interviews from Cooley, Jimi Hendrix Experience members Billy Cox and the late Mitch Mitchell as well as Paul McCartney, Susan Tedeschi, Steve Winwood, Derek Trucks and Kirk Hammett, UltimateClassicRock reports.

The filmmakers assure "breathtaking" color 16mm footage of the July 4 Atlanta Pop Festival set, which touched upon Hendrix staples such as "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe," from Are You Experienced and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" off of Electric Ladyland. Fitting for the Independence Day gig, Hendrix continued to execute a gripping rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Trailing the film's release, Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray beginning Oct. 30-- the film's home version offers bonus footage not included in the television version, Rolling Stone reports. The 16-song set will be brought to either a double CD or double vinyl set titled Freedom: Jimi Hendrix Experience Atlanta Pop Festival, due out on Aug. 28 and available for pre-order now.
