Jimi Hendrix was renowned for his out-of-this-world guitar skills earning him the title "Guitar King" and his music alone inspired countless of artists of today's generation.

Today, let's deep dive into his mysterious death in 1970; did he die accidentally or was there foul play involved?

Jimi Hendrix Career

Before discussing his death, let's take a look at his flourishing success in the 70s. Farout Magazine reported that the musician's career started when he met Chas Chandler in New York City.

Prior to their meeting, Hendrix had been performing in several venues together with The Isley Brothers and Little Richard.

Their introduction happened due to Keith Richards' girlfriend at the time named Linda Keith. She convinced Chandler to watch the guitarist perform at a club in 1966.

Following this, the musician traveled to England where his career started to take off. He established The Jimi Hendrix Experience which is an immersive world tour that his fans loved.

He became popular for his unique take on playing the guitar as well as presenting it to viewers in the crowd. There was even a dramatic poiunt where he lit his guitar on fire.

Jimi Hendrix's Death

According to Grunge, the guitarist passed away on September 18, 1970. He reportedly died of asphyxia from vomit after taking barbiturates with wine.

His girlfriend, Monika Dannemann, was the one who found him in her own apartment at the Samarkand Hotel in the morning.

In a statement, his girlfriend said they slept at around 7 in the morning. When she woke up later that day, his face was covered in vomit but he was still breathing.

She later called for an ambulance and Hendrix was taken to the hospital. Shortly after, she noticed that a few of her sleeping tablets have gone missing.

Was Jimi Hendrix Murdered?

There was speculation that Jimi Hendrix didn't die accidentaly, but rather he was murdered.

His former roadie, James "Tappy" Wright, alleged in his book that the guitarist was murdered by his manager Michael Jeffrey.

Prior to his death, the author revealed that the musician was suffering from a lot of things including exhaustion as well as dissatisfaction with Jeffrey, leading him to consider finding a new manager. (via The Guardian)

Wright claimed that the manager feared losing his position so he decided that he will take the $2 million life insurance which Hendrix allegedly made him the beneficiary of.

However, none of these claims were proven up to this day.
