With the release of the new drama suspense film, The Perfect Guy, soaring to the top in box office totals, you would think that starring actress Sanaa Lathan would just sit back, enjoy the success of the film, and check out some of the reviews and what the critics are saying. As it happens, some of those reviews are not centered around the new film at all -- instead, they are focused on her new song. Yes, you read that right -- her new song! It seems that Lathan is not only exploring her singing talents alone in the studio, she's actually releasing a new tune titled "Emotional" as a single for her new movie.

With so many music artists finding success in other entertainment fields like acting, it was only a matter of time before an actor, known for that stand alone talent, would try their hand at singing. Sanaa Lathan just made that switch with the release of a new single, produced by producer Detail and featuring rap artist Dej Loaf, titled "Emotional."

EUR reported that the idea for the song stemmed from a conversation had between Lathan and Detail after the screening of the new box office hit, also starring Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut. Ealy's character in the film plays an emotionally unstable and sociopathic guy who just doesn't know how to let go and just walk away. In speaking about his character, the pair were inspired and decided to hit the studio to make what is reported as her first recorded song ever.

After listening to the single, you might wonder if Lathan is attempting to make a second career out of this. MTO reported that the actress was also rapping on the single but in fact, the rap verse comes from new female rap artist, Dej Loaf. Can you believe she even has a featured artist on the single? Not to mention, she worked with some pretty heavy-hitter producers on this one as well. Detail is known for producing the Beyonce single, "Drunk in Love." The Lathan single was also co-produced by Choppa & Sidney," according to EUR.

The question remains, would you rather just keep seeing the Love & Basketball star doing what we know her for most -- acting (and doing it well) or would you download a Sanaa Lathan single?
