Williamsburg, one of the northernmost neighborhoods in Brooklyn, has long gotten due and undue renown/notoriety for being the capitol of hipster culture. The neighborhood and surrounding area doesn't just indulge listeners of The National-type rock however. You can find folk, hardcore, and hip-hop at a myriad of venues. The genre palette have expanded further after electronic music venue Verboten opened its doors over the weekend.

The name Verboten first established itself in New York City around the times of the Governor's Ball Music Festival and Electric Zoo last year. Verboten StageONE parties took place at a number of locations along the Brooklyn waterfront. Now the name is permanently attached to a former metal manufacturing warehouse on N. 11th Street in Brooklyn.

The venue features room for 750 concertgoers, a custom designed Martin Audio system, and a panoramic video wall that allows for visual projecting and 3D mapping.

Ownership of course plans on bringing EDM-based performers to the borough, but also aspire to host "art shows, yoga classes and burlesque performances." We concur that a panoramic video wall would greatly enhance our yoga experiences.

The company claims in its "mission" that it hopes to be the "home for underground music and events/" We're not sure Brooklyn is in dire need of a another venue hosting "underground" performers, but Verboten will fill a niche nonetheless.

The club will take the week off following what we're sure was an exciting debut weekend, but it will return with a variety of performers. The act of choice for this weekend will be when Cut Copy appears on Sunday, March 23, and then Jamie xx (of The xx...duh) appears on March 28.
