With Iain Cook on the decks, Chvrches shared a 36 minute mini-mix of favorite tracks on Phil Taggart of BBC Radio 1's weekly show with a Bedtime Mix this past weekend. The mix featured tracks from Aphex Twin, Mogwai, My Bloody Valentine, Jon Hopkins and more. Listen to the full mix below.

Phil Taggart's weekly Bedtime Mix series is, as Pitchfork points out, meant to help listeners fall asleep. The radio host and Chvrches band member discussed the selection of familiar tunes before jumping into the mix, describing the setlist as "comfort music" and "something to take the edge off." Cook did point out to the BBC Radio 1 DJ that, like most other active musicians, he doesn't really have a "regular work week" to wind down from or gear up for, but that "with so much going on, you need something to slow you down" no matter what your schedule may be.

While the selection of songs aren't exactly hush-inspiring lullabies, the mix of classical and indie tracks with electronic sensibilities does create the perfect ambience for turning-down. Check out the full tracklist for Cvrches' Bedtime Mix, via NME, below:

  1. Jon Hopkins -- "Immunity"
  2. Aphex Twin - "Jynweythek Ylow"
  3. Tangerine Dream - "Love On A Real Train"
  4. Mogwai - "Hunted By A Freak"
  5. A Winged Victory For The Sullen - "Atomos VI"
  6. My Bloody Valentine - "Sometimes"
  7. Brian Eno - "An Ending (Ascent)"

While Taggart has been curating BBC 1's Bedtime Mix series for only a short time, the idea has already been an established, recurring thing for awhile, thanks to Annie Mac and other BBC Radio 1 DJs. The idea behind the series is brilliant. Really, how often do we ask artists to put together a mix that will help us not dance or mosh or get through the week but instead will help us relax and maybe even fall asleep?

During Mac's tenure, Grimes and Four Tet were among the roster of artists who helped create the perfect soundtracks for winding down at the end of a long day. Since Taggart took over, he's already hosted an impressive roster of artists. Earlier in November, Floating Points dropped by with an all-vinyl mix that featured tracks from Darkside's Nicolas Jaar among other artists. Back in September, Tame Impala's Kevin Parker shared a sleepytime mix that featured cuts from Frank Ocean, Panda Bear, Air, Gotye, Kraftwerk and the Flaming Lips among others.
