For some very lucky servicemen and women, Christmas came early this year for them and their families. USO and Twentieth Century FOX got together to send Empire cast members Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray to Japan to visit the many troops stationed there. The three stars (and friends) chatted with hundreds of airmen and sailors, as well as their families, while touring the country. They also hosted free giveaways, an Empire Q & A and two parties open to those who serve and their entire families. As a cherry on top, the troops and their families were also treated to a concert featuring Smollett and Gray.

This trip wasn't just a job for the three stars; all have military ties that gave their time on the base and around the troop special meaning.

Smollett, who was just on the set of The View celebrating his best friend Raven-Symoné's 30th birthday, said, "My uncle served in Vietnam, he was in the Navy; so just hearing his stories of all these women and men who were so selfless, and just gave of themselves. And not just the women and men who serve but also their families... they give up so, so much for all of us, it's pretty incredible."

Henson, who is returning to host Celebration of Gospel on BET, said, "My father was a Vietnam vet and I have a cousin that's in the Navy, he is still active. He never comes home for Christmas; so that was a huge reason why I felt the need to come over here. I just thought about how much we missed him every Christmas and how many other families are missing their loved ones stationed overseas. This trip is a good way to pay homage to all those who risk their lives for us (my cousin included) and to let you guys know how much you are appreciated." She went on, "Thank you is not enough. Hopefully the thank you comes across in us entertaining you guys."

The baby of the group, Gray, was anything but immature as he put on one heck of a show to the shock and appreciation of troops. "I have two uncles who are in the military. So, today, just coming here... was very powerful. I have a lot of respect for the military." He added, "I've never been to Japan, this is my first time here and the experience has been great. It's been life-changing."
