Coming on episode 9 of its second season, Empire has included an impressive roster of guest spots and this week, Alicia Keys is the latest to make an appearance as critically acclaimed pop star Skye Summers.

In the previous episode of Empire, Hakeem and Freda Gatz engaged in an intense rap battle backed by Lucious. Interestingly, Lucious and Freda have developed a tight bond and he used that against his youngest son, who refused to return to his label earlier in the season. Hakeem ultimately won the battle and decided to put a “bullet to the name Lyon.”

Jamal somehow got his parents to work together on a new song and he earned a deal as the face of Pepsi with the track.

Anika discovered that she is pregnant, presumably by Hakeem. After highjacking a service car, Lucious’ former fiancee showed up as the driver responsible for taking Hakeem’s new girlfriend home. She disguised herself with a blonde wig.

This episode, titled “Sinned Against,” picks up from last week with Cookie and her sister, Candace (played by Vivica A. Fox) on the hunt for their sister Carol. During their search, they enlist the help of a former prison mate (guest star Rosie O’Donnell). Meanwhile, Keys appears to work on a collaboration with Jamal. Elsewhere in the episode, Cookie learns the truth about Laz, who has seemingly fallen hard for her.

In episode 6, it was revealed that Laz is a part of the group who kidnapped Hakeem from the park. The secret was revealed to viewers as things got hot and heavy between the two and Laz removed his shirt, unveiling that he has the same longhorn tattoo as Hakeem’s kidnappers.
