In one of the biggest moves of his career, Bassnectar is now slated to have an annual performing slot at Electric Forest Festival. It’s the latest in a string of recent developments as this past Wednesday (June 1), he revealed that he is releasing new music on Twitter and four new tracks were released the Friday following the announcement.

Bassnectar was also featured on the EDM compilation, Rave For Bernie, and he is also slated to perform at Mysteryland US Festival this upcoming weekend on the ’69 Woodstock grounds. Later in June, he is set to perform at Electric Forest in the first performance of what will become an official residency. He gave his thoughts to Pasquale Rotella, the founder of Insomniac Events, on Night Owl Radio.

“After last year, the festival asked if I would come in as an official resident to play each year,” Bassnectar said to Night Owl Radio as reported by Billboard. “I haven’t really done that officially for any festival yet. I just felt like there was nowhere else that felt more like home for that - partly due to the people that attend, and also just the heart and soul that’s put into the event.”

The producer further said, “I’m pretty speechless about it. The enthusiasm reminds me of some Grateful Dead, Bob Marley sh*t, in terms of people remixing the logo and taking the art and making their own bits out of it. It feels punk rock to me, a bit heavy metal. Back in the ‘80s, we’d cut out posters and sew them on to the back of jackets. The music you love becomes the flag - an iconic symbol for your culture. To be involved in any kind of version of that is super humbling.”

In other Bassnectar news, he is also slated to be a headliner at Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival this Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 2-4). Other headliners for the festival include Odesza, Zedd, Logic and Grouplove. The line-up will also include The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Galantis, Action Bronson, Juicy J, Greensky Bluegrass, Sleigh Bells, Keys N Krates, Zomboy, Ty Dolla $ign, Matoma, Sam Feldt, Raury, The Revivalists, Vulfpeck, Stick Figure and Big Wild.
