Rumors circulating from earlier in the day that suggest Adele's new album would drop this year by surprise under the title 25 are apparently just that: rumors. Martin Mills, the head of Beggar's Banquet, gave a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that all information flatting around the internet at the moment has "no truth in this."

What got the wheels rolling? The Twitter account of the World Music Awards sent out a message declaring that "#adele confirms 2015 Tour After The Release Of Her New Album '25'!" This got people in a tizzy because a) nobody had any confirmed news that the album would indeed be title 25, b) nobody had confirmed information that the album would indeed drop during 2014, c) the whole tour thing and d) everyone hates when you tweet with all first letters capitalized. Don't do it.

Still, a few key players haven't commented on the "news." Adele herself hasn't released a statement, nor has the World Music Awards made any move to remove the post from its account. Notable however that the WMA's hash-tagged Adele's name versus tweeting it at her, perhaps to avoid notice. And the show's website doesn't say anything to suggest when such an awards program would even happen. When we need to go to Wikipedia to find out that the event hasn't taken place for three years but will supposedly make a (no date provided) reemergence in Monaco, we ten to be suspicious.

All that being said, most legitimate sources in the industry still believe that the album will indeed drop during the 2014 year. And considering the success the pianist had with her first two albums, 19 and 21, it wouldn't be surprising in the least if 25 were the title.

But for now, a basic journalism principle: Your scoop is only as good as where you get it from.
