Sam Smith reveals that his anxiety almost ruined his performance at the Grammy Awards. The singer also shares how he has improved his mental health.

During a recent interview, the 25-year-old singer said that he suffered from the mental disorder during his show in Sheffield. Since Smith's songs are very personal to him, he felt that he was like an open wound at the time.

"I am more nervous now than on my first tour. I get massive anxiety. I really struggle, I was so nervous at the Grammys this year. I thought I would be more in control of my body and emotions but I get so nervous, to the point I'm almost having panic attacks," said Smith.

Luckily for the singer, he has a strong support group made up of people who love him dearly.

Sam Smith Quits Drinking

Last year, Smith also revealed that he has decided to quit drinking. He recently focused his attention on meditation, and his life has been better ever since.

During his recent interview, the "Too Good at Goodbyes" singer also dished on his album The Thrill Of It All. He said that the record was mostly about his emotional reaction to fame.

"Burning is about feeling you are not in control. It's about the self-destructive element - I was going out drinking way too much. Of course, you want to celebrate that these amazing things have happened but you can't celebrate all the time," explained the singer.

For the past three weeks, Smith has not been drinking alcohol. He said that when he doesn't drink or smoke, he feels happier and more focused on his work. He also said that his anxiety got worse over the past holiday season, but he has been looking after his mental health ever since.
