Metallica's Kirk Hammett gifted the United States with arguably one of the most powerful renditions of the national anthem at a baseball game on Monday, April 24.

Sixth Metallica Night

The metal icon took part in the sixth annual Metallica Night in the band's adopted hometown of San Francisco. The band announced last February that they will be taking a brief time off from their European tour to be involved in the game between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals.

Hammett kicked off the games with a performance of the "Star Spangled Banner. Meanwhile, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich threw the first pitch.

The major music and sports event took place at the AT&T Park in San Francisco. A portion of the proceeds from Metallica Night will be donated to All Within My Hands, a foundation founded by the heavy metal band that helps out various charities.

Individual members of the band have been active in various fundraising and donated to charities that support education and food banks. Earlier this month, the group invited fans to volunteer at food banks on May 23 to mark the first day of service of All Within Hands.

In addition, Metallica is auctioning the guitar that Hammett played at the games, signed by each member of the band, to a lucky fan. Those who are interested to join must simply make a donation of $10 to the All Within My Hands Foundation official website until April 30 next week. Each $10 donation will receive one raffle entry.

"We're blessed to be doing this every year and being a part of the vibe here," said Metallica frontman James Hetfield. "You know, when times are good, when times are bad, they need the support."

Blabbermouth adds that the Grammy-winning group also played during the Golden State Warriors' basketball games and the San Jose Sharks' hockey games.

Metallica will next appear on Long Live Rock... Celebrate The Chaos, a documentary that centers on the stories of rock musicians and their fans. The documentary will also feature interviews with Corey Taylor of Slip Knot, Rob Zombie, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, and more. Preorders are now open on Pledge Music.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are also currently on tour to promote their most recent album Hardwired... to Self-Destruct.
