Luis Fonsi Talks About 'Despacito' Success

Following his multiple wins, Fonsi opened up about the continued success of "Despacito." The track was released on April 17, 2017. The 40-year-old musician said that he has never released anything as huge as the said song.

"It's something that in my 20-year career, I hadn't done before. My career was mostly based in Latin American countries, so to be able to go into these exotic places, singing in Spanish is truly a blessing and I'm enjoying it and I hope that it keeps on growing and doors keep on opening for Latin music - not only for me but for all my colleagues," said Fonsi.

Fonsi first performed "Despacito" live at the Billboard Latin Music Awards last year. Since then, the track has been at the top of the music charts. For 52 weeks, no other Latin song has taken over its place.

The singer said that the popularity of the song and its success is something that he does not take lightly. In fact, the success of "Despacito" encouraged him to work harder.

During his interview after the awards night, Fonsi also took the time to express his gratitude to Daddy Yankee and Bieber. The voices of the two artists are featured in the song. He also thanked all of those who worked with him behind the scenes.
