Prince's Yellow Cloud Guitar sells for $225,000 at an auction in New York. The auction was part of Julien's Auctions' presentation Music Icons: Property From the Life and Career of Prince.

The event was held on Friday at New York City's Hard Rock Café. Other than the Yellow Cloud Guitar, a Mardi Gras-style doll that was used as a prop in Purple Rain was also sold for a huge sum of money. Initially, auctioneers thought it would be sold between $2,000 and $4,000, but a bidding war broke out at the auction. Daniel Kruse, an auctioneer, manage to sell the prop for $12,500.

Other than these two items, Prince's purple, stage-worn jumpsuit, was sold for $27,500. A dark-purple tunic that Prince wore in 1996 was sold for $25,000. Prince's wardrobe from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards sold for $108,000.

Jerry Fraize Buys Nine Items From Auction

Two bidders dominated much of the auction on Friday. One was an anonymous Japanese Prince fan, and the other one is Jerry Fraize, the director of memorabilia for the Hard Rock chain. Fraize bought nine items from the auction, including three tambourines and two handwritten notes.

"We wanted to build on our collection and celebrate Prince's legacy," said Fraize.

The other bidders who attended the auction revealed that they know one another since they are huge fans of the late singer.

Darlene Blander Remembers Prince

Darlene Blander, for instance, became a massive Prince fan at such a young age. She was able to attend 23 of the singer's concerts. She recently started a social group in support of her idol.

"It's exciting but bittersweet because he's not here but it's nice to see people appreciating who he was," said Blander.

Prince's ex-wife, Mayte Garcia, co-signed majority of the items that were sold at the auction. Garcia will also be receiving a large portion of the proceeds.
