The co-writer of Earth, Wind & Fire's hit song, "September," breaks her silence on Taylor Swift's cover released on April 12.

At that time, several people expressed their dislike of Swift's take on "September," and Allee Willis seemed to agree with them.

Allee Willis Talks About Taylor Swift

Last Friday, Willis performed at the City Theater in her hometown of Detroit. While there, she told the audience that she thought the cover was "lethargic as a drunk turtle," but she does not think that Swift did a horrible job.

"I thought it had all the build of a one-story motel, but, I mean, the girl didn't kill anybody. She didn't run over your foot. She just cut a very calm and somewhat boring take of one of the peppiest, happiest, most popular songs in history," said Willis.

The co-writer also revealed that she learned about Swift's cover just hours before its release last month. Willis also noted that Swift changed the first line of the song from the 21st night of September to the 28th night of September. Some fans did not like the fact that she changed the line, but Willis said it was Swift's call to do so.

"Everyone has a right to do with a song what they please, so go on with your own bad self, Taylor Swift. I'm honored you'd choose to do my song and that it meant enough to you that you wanted to personalize it..." said Willis.

Taylor Swift Performs With Selena Gomez

In related news, Swift also made headlines after she surprised her audience with a performance with Selena Gomez in Pasadena, California. Prior to their performance, Swift told her fans that they will be singing Gomez's hit song "Hands to Myself." She also said that the track is her favorite.

While on stage, Gomez told the crowd how much she loves Swift. She also said that the "Delicate" singer has never judged her on any of the decisions she has made. She also said that Swift changed her life.

Following their performance, Swift made sure to express her gratitude to Gomez for sharing the stage with her.

"To the person I could call at any time of day, who has been there no matter what... you absolutely KILLED it tonight and everyone was so excited to see you. I love you, and 60,000 people at the Rose Bowl loved you too," wrote Swift.
