Van Halen might soon hold a tribute tour to honor the band and Eddie Van Halen's legacy, Joe Satriani confirmed.

Satriani recently started promoting his new album, "The Elephants of Mars," through the "Rock of Nations with Dave Kinchen" podcast. During his appearance, he talked about the recent buzz about the Van Halen tribute tour, confirming that he indeed got involved in discussions with Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth.

"I've been talking with Alex and Dave for about a year about doing something - a tour, something like that - that was gonna be a true tribute to Eddie and the Van Halen legacy," Satriani said. "For me, it was a terrifying prospect of doing something like that, but I realized that it was something that would be a real labor of love for me. I was just so honored to take on the challenge."

The guitarist added that having a tribute tour is complicated. But he also encouraged himself as they want it to become the greatest thing for fans while celebrating the band and the late singer's legacy.

Why Joe Satriani Wanted To Keep It a Secret?

Satriani's comments came a week after former Metallica bass guitarist Jason Newsted told Palm Beach Post that he had been approached by Alex and Satriani to be part of the Van Halen tour.

Satriani said that the leaking of their plans is expected in the music industry. However, they reportedly wanted to be very quiet about it since they do not work out sometimes.

"There's usually about ten crazy ideas that float around and musicians are always, like, 'Okay, I won't say anything about this 'cause it may not work out. I don't wanna hurt this person's feelings or disrupt any other business plans.' So, yeah, we were all pretty shocked that Jason wanted to go public with it 'cause we were all sworn to silence," he continued.

Satriani repeated how it would be an honor and challenge once the tribute tour happens. He added that no one can ever reproduce what Eddie did.

According to the musician, someone can learn the notes and fingerings of what Eddie showed when he was alive. However, he proclaimed that no one could ever do it like Eddie did since he was "the epitome of an original genius."

As of press time, it remains unknown when is the target date of the aforesaid Van Halen tour.
