The crimson "Thriller" jacket of Michael Jackson is receiving a new (temporary) home.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is the new location for fans to examine the iconic jacket of the King of Pop, as it has been added to the Legends of Rock exhibit in preparation for the 40th anniversary of Thriller.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame curator Amanda Pecsenye said in a statement, "We are thrilled to display Michael Jackson's jacket from his groundbreaking music video for 'Thriller' - one of the greatest videos of all time and the title track to the best-selling album of all time."

She added, "It's an iconic artifact from Jackson's monumental career."

According to a press release, the jacket, which belongs to the Verret family of Austin, Texas, was brought to the Rock Hall in Cleveland, Ohio, under "high level security," and will remain on display for at least one year.

The red "Thriller" jacket worn by the late pop artist was designed by costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis and her husband John Landis to make Jackson appear more "virile." This is exactly what Deborah  revealed to The Wall Street Journal in 2009. In addition, she mentioned that Jackson, who was 25 years old at the time, weighed only 99 pounds and had a 26-inch waist.

"Thriller" is generally acknowledged as Jackson's greatest album. It has spent a total of 522 weeks on the Billboard 200 since its release on November 30, 1982, with 37 of those weeks at the top.

The 25th anniversary reissues of Thriller feature a photo of Michael Jackson in his "Thriller" jacket, surrounded by zombies from the music video.

On November 18, a 40th anniversary reissue of the album will be issued with a double-CD comprising the album's original songs and a bonus disc of unreleased material that Michael Jackson had worked on for the album.
