Deftones is considered a veteran band today as they first launched into the music industry decades ago. Even though they have been in the limelight for a long time, they still manage to excite fans, especially now that they teased new music.

Speaking to NME backstage at Download Festival, Frank Delgado and Abe Cunningham confirmed that new music is coming soon.

The band is currently on tour and will be going to different cities over the next few weeks. When asked about their plans after their scheduled shows, Cunningham revealed they're going to "chill for a bit."

They are also planning on the third annual Dia De Los Deftones festival in San Diego, California, in November, but compared to previous shows, the event will only be one day.

The musician then hinted at a possibility of releasing music, saying, "That's it for the year basically, so maybe we'll try and jam on some new songs. There's always a little something brewing".

When asked about retiring anytime soon, the drummer said it won't happen as they didn't sit at home for three years for nothing before revealing they have "tons of fire to keep doing this."

After the release of 2020's "Ohms," the band said they were only "scratching the surface," and felt like they were just getting started.

Despite their big plans, it was not easy for them to pull off a successful tour as they faced several problems along the way.

A few months ago, long-time bassist Sergio Vega shocked fans by announcing that he was leaving the band.

The bassist replaced Chi Chang after a serious car accident in 2008.

In an interview with the "Talk Toomey" podcast, the musician revealed he felt like he was never formally an official member of the group and had been questioning his position over the years.

He clarified that his exit from the band was not because of financial issues but rather a sense of belongingness.

"It was never about money, it was about a sense of belonging. So that was really it," he added.

In addition to Vega's problem, guitarist Stephen Carter didn't join Deftones on their European tour, saying he's not ready to "leave home and leave the country yet."

As of this writing, Carter has not confirmed when he will perform with the band again.
