Deftones member Chino Moreno can no longer rap like he used to.

Moreno made his own empire in the rock industry and added flavor to his music by rapping in some of his songs. However, he recently opened up about how the style is no longer a big part of his vocal identity decades after he debuted.

Why Chino Moreno Doesn't Rap Anymore Revealed

Speaking with Kerrang!, Moreno spoke candidly about why he is no longer fond of rapping these days as he used to. Per the musician, he does not think he can really rap anymore.

"I have stated plenty of times that writing lyrics, to me, feels like a task at times - and rapping has so many f------ words!" he said. "By singing I can stretch the words out so I don't have to write as many words. That's sort of my excuse for not doing it anymore."

Moreno added that he is out of practice already, though it still influences his writing.

For instance, he "accidentally" raps in the ††† (Crosses) upcoming album "Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete" track titled, "Big Youth."

It is reportedly the closest to rapping he gets after many years, and he did not realize it until after working on it. Shaun Lopez's wife also noticed it and asked the guitarist how the band got Moreno to rap even when he was not.

Chino Moreno Suffered Severe Throat Pain in The Past

While Moreno remains active in the music industry, he previously suffered different issues, including throat pain.

Deftones canceled their appearance in Sacramento, Calif., back in 2001 after his doctors told the singer not to use his voice for one to two days. The same illness prevented him from appearing in the radio show "Rockline."

In 2020, he told Metal Hammer that he initially felt afraid of undergoing therapy when he became mentally unstable.

"It wasn't like I was going through anything crazy," he said. "But I was trying to figure out, 'Why am I sort of slightly depressed?' I live in a beautiful place, I have a job, and a healthy family and whatever... why am I so agitated?'"
