Shinedown has been taking over the rock industry by storm but Brent Smith revealed that none of their success will happen if he never heard three big lessons from a vocalist from another band; who could this be?

In an interview with Audacy Check In with Ryan Castle, the frontman said 3 Doors Down's Brad Arnold became his mentor when he started out in the music industry.

During the early 2000s, the band has been performing on their gigs and tours when they tapped Shinedown to perofrm with them. Smith recalled the experience as their "first real tour."

The vocalist said Arnold was "so gracious" whenever he performs on stage as well as interacting with his crew. Many people would think that the former is not genuine, but Smith said it was "very real."

"just watching him and being able to hang out with him and pick his brain and hang out at catering and sit with him and talk and just befriending him [was crucial]," he said (via Loudwire)

Shinedown's Brent Smith Learned a Few Mantras From Brad Arnold

Whenever he performs on stage, Smith said he has a favorite mantra that he learned from the veteran rocker, saying that in their band, they only have one boss and that is everyone in the crowd.

He noted that Arnold would tell him he could borrow things from others, but whenever he performs on stage, he has to find himself and it could take time.

Smith added that his idol told him that he shouldn't be shy and explore a lot of things as he will find what works for him.

Elsewhere in the interview, the frontman shared his own words regarding which path to take in the industry, saying that the moment he was born, he's been doing what he always wanted to do.

"I wanted to be an artist, that I wanted to be a performer, that I wanted to be a songwriter, that I wanted to be a singer and that I never ever looked back," he added.

Smith also noted the advice he usually give to people about having Plan B, saying they should always stick to their first plan even though it would take a long time to get there because people are afraid of failure.
