When artists perform in different parts of the globe for their respective world tours, it is expected that they would also be open to doing or heeding certain cultural traditions.

Grammy Award-winning singer Harry Styles, who is currently in Australia for his Love on Tour, did not think that going down under meant that he would have to drink beer from his shoe during one of his performances, but traditions are traditions, and Harry was subjected to fan pressure into doing so.

Harry Styles 'Shoey' Video

In a now-viral video of Styles, he was seen drinking a liquid, presuming it was beer, using his shoe - leaving people on the internet queasy, bothered, and altogether disgusted by the rather unusual act.

Netizens have quickly reacted to Harry Styles drinking from his shoe.

"he's probably one of those white people who don't take baths every few months," someone tweeted.

"and some people will think this is hot," another posted, along with an Adele meme hiding from her purse.

"Give me that Grammy back there are better people who deserve it," a user asked.

However, a quick google search would actually suffice the curiosity of others on why Harry drank from his shoe.

What is an Australian 'Shoey'?

In fact, it is an Australian tradition to drink from one's shoes.

According to New York Times, Drinking from a Shoe, or what Australians call a "shoey," is a tradition at live music or sporting events on the continent.

Doing a "shoey" is pouring alcohol, in most cases beer, into one's shoes and chugging it as the beer flows down the shirt - prompting the drinker to wear the wet shoe for the rest of the night as a bringer of good fortune.

There have been so many instances of this specific Australian tradition of drinking from a shoe that went viral on social media.

In the past, Jimmy Fallon and Hugh Grant drank it on live television the late night show; Kacey Musgraves, Machine Gun Kelly, and even Post Malone chugged on beer from their shows in Australia to take part in the tradition.

When Harry Styles was asked to do a shoey back then on his first Australian tour, he declined. But ultimately, on his recent outing on the continent, he finally succumbed.
