AJ McLean and his wife Rochelle shocked fans earlier this week when they announced that they would be separating "temporarily." More recently, sources claim that the two have had problems month before the surprising revelation.
According to multiple insiders who spoke to Page Six, the estranged couple's marriage have been crumbling for months now.
One source claim that the two have been allegedly living apart since January as the Backstreet Boys member left their marital home.
It appears that their separation was long overdue as another insider claimed the breakup was "a long time coming" and there is more to the story that the couple released to the public.
As of this writing, neither of the two has confirmed whether the ongoing rumors about them are accurate.

In early reports, the pair spoke to a news outlet to reveal the status of their relationship, saying both of them decided to "separate temporarily" in order for them to work on their individual selves.
They also wanted to work on their marriage, hoping to build a stronger future for one another.
AJ McLean and Rochelle DeAnna-McLean have been married for almost 12 years now and they share two daughters together.

Later in the interview, the Backstreet Boys performer asked fans and the paparazzi to respect their privacy amid the issue as they care for their children.
"The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another, and our family. We ask for respect and privacy at this time," he added.

People Magazine reported that the two first met each other in 2001. At the time, the musician's wife worked as a server in Los Angeles, California, before she became a makeup artist and hairstylist.
After dating for six years, the two eventually got married and had two children together: 10-year-old Elliott and 6-year-old Lyric.
As of this writing, it is still unclear what the reason behind their breakup was, but the outlet shared a previous interview wherein the musician opened up about his drug and alcohol struggles, saying it almost tore his family apart.
He recalled that there was a point when his wife and kids left him, but his ego always told him that they would come back, adding, "If I were her, I would have left, but she's always been able to see through the BS to who I really am."
