Sam Smith was born on May 19, 1992 in London. Singing has always come naturally for Sam, even as a child. In 2009, Smith had recorded two songs, but, it would have been a couple of years before they make a major breakthrough in the music business, as per Biography.com. Sam studied music throughout the time that they were a teen, until they got their big break in music.
How Sam Smith Started His Music Career
Sam's journey to fame in their music career began when Smith contributed vocals to the dance/electronica group, Disclosure's 2012 song, "Latch." Smith's melodic falsetto voice was highlighted over Disclosure's electronic beat in the making of this song. Not too long afterwards, Sam released their own solo single called, "Lay Me Down," and the rest has been history.

Sam Smith and Kim Petras marked a milestone in history after having become the first non-binary and transgender artists, respectively, to top the Billboard Hot 100 with their hit song, "Unholy."
