Nelly Furtado has been in the industry for decades now and the early generation was able to witness her success as her tracks became known globally. However, despite amassing fame years ago, she believes that her musical legacy only started to connect recently; what happened?

Speaking with Fault Magazine, the Canadian musician was asked if she contemplates her musical legacy after being a singer for over 20 years now.

She explained that her legacy only started to "connect" in the last few years due to the social media platform, TikTok.

Her realization hit when her daughter spoke to her and revealed that her music went viral on the app, and people have been using it for dance challenges and trends.

"I didn't even have TikTok on my phone, and I didn't know how to use it. We started making fun little videos on there. At the same time, I started going out and often hearing my music being played," she added. (via ET)

Furtado then recalled that when she started in the music industry, the public would tell her that she was a "one-hit wonder," but years later, her music is still relevant as people still like it today.

Nelly Furtado New Album

Elsewhere in the conversation, the pop star teased fans about her next album and it would contain tracks that have been inspired by her Latin roots.

The singer explained that she couldn't help but write in Spanish and Portuguese in her music as she loves it so much.

"The second record you'll hear is a Spanglish track because it just happened that way. I don't really overthink it when I write in Spanish; it just naturally happens," she added.

Nelly Furtado Had Recorded 'a Hundred' Songs Over the Past Years

One collaborator of her next project is Bomba Estéro. It all began when she met one of the band's members, Liliana, in Colombia. They later meditated in the jungle and then went into the studio to record a song.

One of the main reasons why she felt connected with Liliana was because Furtado relied "quite heavily" on those female friendships.

Later on, the musician said she had written over a hundred songs over the past year and a half and she couldn't wait for her fans to hear them.
