After two years, Zayn Malik has finally put out a brand-new single. The former member of One Direction released his comeback single, "Love Like This," on Friday (21.07.23).

It was his first release under his new record company, Mercury Records, and it was accompanied by a music video in which he rides a motorcycle across New York City in pursuit of a woman. In the song, he croons, ""I guess there's love like this/ Usually I never wanna jump like this ... I guess there's faith like this/ Give you everything and you can skate like this/ But I think I gotta take that risk 'cause I can not go back/ And I'm loving what you say, what you say, what you say when you're on my line."

The song is his first brand-new offering since his 2021 album "Nobody Is Listening," and it will probably serve as the album's opening tune. "Mind of Mine" from 2016 and "Icarus Falls" from 2018 were among Zayn's earlier releases. The singer has previously vowed that his new music will sound different from his earlier works. I have a few really sad ones [songs], absolutely, he said on the "Call Her Daddy" show. For me, it has a different sound, and there is more narrative going on with things like real-life situations. 'Love Like This' is basically a summer jam, he continued.

The vibe is positive. It simply has a summery vibe. Since quitting the boyband, the pop singer hasn't headlined a significant solo show and has previously discussed his struggles with performance anxiety, but he's hinted he could be ready to do so now.

"I'm still very nervous now because it's been a few years that I've been on stage. But I have this energy to like, I feel that I have something to give and I want to get on stage and be there again. To feel that," Malik added.

Prior to the song's debut, Zayn was continuously teasing it. On June 29, he posted a video of him contemplating something while perched atop an apartment building and listening to some music. A week later, he posted a video of himself spray-painting graffiti on a wall in order to unveil the title of the song. He also shared a picture of himself hugging someone who some mistakenly identified as Selena Gomez. Contrary to what some fans believed, other ads made it clear that it wasn't Selena.

The fragments' minimal production evoked the 1990s' drum and bass/UK garage/jungle feel. According to insiders with knowledge of the performer, this song departs from the style of his earlier work (including the singles "Pillowtalk" and "I Don't Wanna Live Forever"). The release of the new track follows Zayn's decision to change directions in his career by joining Mercury Records.

His first three albums, Mind of Mine (2016), Icarus Falls (2018), and Nobody Is Listening (2021), were all released by RCA (RCA is owned by Sony Music Entertainment, whilst Mercury Records is a division of the Universal Music Group). Tyler Arnold, president of Mercury Records, was overjoyed to welcome Zayn to the legendary roster of the company.
