Snoop Dogg formally announced that he is giving up smoking after decades of using the substance.

Fans were left shocked after Snoop Dogg posted the statement on his X and Instagram accounts, though he did not specify which one he would be quitting specifically.

"After much consideration & conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time," the rapper, born Calvin Broadus, said.

Why Is Snoop Dogg Giving Up Smoking?

On social media pages, Snoop Dogg's name immediately trended as fans asked the rapper what pushed him to make the decision. Some even suggested that he might only be joking.

One said, "If Snoop Dogg actually retired from smoking forever I'm going to be pretty surprised and shocked."

"Don't worry Snoop, we your disciples will carry on your legacies..... We'll smoke on your behalf........ Stay strong for us," another wrote, while a third added, "Even icons like Snoop Dogg show us that it's never too late to embrace change for personal growth. Let his decision to give up smoking inspire us to evaluate and improve our own habits for better health and well-being."

Snoop Dogg has been known for using marijuana and having business ventures related to cannabis. He often smoked weed onstage, as well, while encouraging fans to smoke in the crowd during his shows.

While he did not share why he decided to give up on smoking, the "Drop It Like It's Hot" singer previously said that being a grandfather changed him.

He told Daily Mail that changing his lifestyle would be the only way he could live longer and see his grandkids grow old.

"The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?" he said. "Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I'm supposed to be doing?"

Snoop Dogg is a grandfather to five grandchildren.

He received the Clio Cannabis Awards' Lifetime Achievement in 2020 for his association and contribution to cannabis.

Before his recent announcement, he appeared in the headlines when he had a smoking session with Ed Sheeran during the rapper's show in Australia in March.
