Knife Party, Tom Morello Release Emphatic New Single 'Battle Sirens'
Knife Party and Tom Morello have at last released their collaboration "Battle Sirens." The emphatic and unapologetic new collaboration brings together the hard-hitting guitars of Morello and Knife Party's relentless brand of electronic music.
The song starts out with Morello's driving guitars and some percussion. He switches his melody after about the one minute mark as the track switches to add the more notable contributions of Knife Party and their diverse mix of synths and percussion sounds that seem random, but all manage to fit together.
The idea for this collaboration was proposed by Morello who wanted to bring together his world and Knife Party's.
"Tom hit us up when we were in the studio saying he'd always loved the idea of merging his guitar riffs into the electronic world and we bounced some ideas back and forth until we had the final version. Performing this track live as a surprise during our Ultra set was insane," says Knife Party in a statement.
The concept makes a lot of sense since Gareth McGrillen and Rob Swire come from Pendulum, the Australian drum and bass group that played live with instruments.
"'Battle Sirens' is the cross genre hard guitar/hard EDM mash up I've been waiting to hear for years," says Morello in a statement. "The devastating grooves, monster drops and insane tension that are a hallmark of both Knife Party and RATM are elevated to a crazy level with this jam."
Rock has been hesitant to really accept modern electronic music, but collaborations like this could help change the minds of those who are instruments or bust to possibly consider collaborations between the two genres.
