Megadeth star Dave Mustaine has revealed that he reconciled with his estranged sister prior to her death.

The vocalist took to social media to honor her on National Sibling's Day, sharing the story of how she called him to make peace before she passed away. It was the first time they had spoken in 20 years.

"I just got a shocking Facetime video call from my sister Suzanne. Sadly, she is going to be leaving this earth in the next few days, as she is in the grasp of Parkinson's and dementia, and is starting to have her organ shut down. That was hard enough, but the fact that we haven't spoken in probably 20 years is even worse."

The post went on to share that his sister was unable to speak due to her condition, but he was still able to identify her after their relationship had dissolved.

"Imagine my delight to get a Facetime video from her today," his statement continued. "Even though she can't speak anymore, I knew it was her. I just kept telling her how much I love her and I know she's going to be slipping out of this body and her spirit's going to be free soon."

Mustaine went on to reflect upon how the pivotal phone call took place on National Siblings Day. The "Symphony of Destruction" singer stated that their relationship was tarnished when he refused to follow her as a Jehovah's Witness, even though he kept trying to repair their dynamic.

"So bizarre national sibling day that I would hear from my sister that I haven't spoken to in so long, in the state of affairs she's currently dealing with, and the fact that even though she didn't want to have anything to do with me growing up because she was a Jehovah's Witness, I kept trying and imagine how happy I am to have seen her phone call today and not be a butt dial."

The singer is the youngest of four children, being the only son in his family. This is the second sister he has buried, with Blabbermouth reporting that he lost his sister Michelle in 2020. His remaining sister, Debbie, is three years his senior. It is unclear what their relationship is like today.

The 62-year-old posted the statement on his X account, captioning it: "Sharing some words about family. In honor of #NationalSiblingsDay. Life's too short not to reach out to loved ones."

Mustaine detailed his family relationship in his 2010 memoir, revealing that his parents split up when he was four. He was raised by his mother in Los Angeles, describing his father as a "shadowy figure."

Megadeth is currently in Latin America as part of their Crush The World Tour. They are slated to play several sold out shows in Europe this summer.
