Nick Carter's legal team maintained the singer's innocence after a woman sued him for sexual assault. According to his representatives, the allegations were fabricated in an attempt to tarnish Carter's reputation akin to a ruse to get the singer cancelled.

Over a year after Shannon Ruth named Carter in her sexual assault lawsuit, the Backstreet Boys member's legal team submitted a motion for summary judgment against the accuser on Tuesday, May 7.

In the filing, obtained by Us Weekly, Carter's lawyers accused Ruth of being "desperate for her two minutes of fame" when she just cried rape and "wrongfully" pointed a finger at the singer.

"Ruth's goal was simple - gain as much attention as possible in hopes that Carter would be canceled. For a brief moment it worked," the legal filing read. "ABC canceled the Backstreet Boys' Christmas special, A Very Backstreet Holiday, and Carter was left fighting for his innocence and his family."

The attorneys continued, "Now, over a year later, Carter has obtained all of the evidence necessary to prove that he has been telling the truth all along - he did not rape Ruth or anyone else for that matter."

In Ruth's initial filing, she alleged Carter invited her to the tour bus when she attended the Backstreet Boys' concert in Tacoma in 2001. The singer reportedly offered her a colored drink, which Carter called a VIP drink, despite knowing she was underage.

After consuming the drink, Carter allegedly told her to get on her knees and insisted on performing oral s-on him.

Ruth, who was also diagnosed with autism and cerebral palsy, was allegedly forced to continue doing it even when she was already crying.

Her lawsuit also revealed more details of the alleged sexual, including the time Carter led her to a bed before pushing her down and copulating her orally.

However, the "I Want It That Way" hitmaker hit back at Ruth's claims and accused her of plotting a "plan to garner fame and extort Carter out of money."

"This claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue."

"Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick - and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time. No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer - there is nothing to this claim whatsoever, which we have no doubt the courts will quickly realize," the statement continued.

Ruth and her representatives have yet to respond to the new filing.
