There's been plenty of speculation, at least among metal heads, as to who will be playing the drums on Slipknot's new album. Some very strong evidence (NME) has come out suggesting one particular candidate and we've got to admit, we're fairly surprised: former Against Me! drummer Jay Weinberg

That aforementioned evidence was in the form of a tweet from Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace

"Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #s--tbag," she wrote.

We'll get the context of that tweet out of the way first before we look into what it means for Slipknot. Weinberg, son of Bruce Springsteen's drummer Max Weinberg, left Against Me! during 2012, which Grace described as waking up and seeing a tweet stating that he had left the band. It's doubtful that his leaving the group two years ago had anything to do with Slipknot but Grace went into a Twitter tirade yesterday, accusing the drummer of demanding the spotlight and feeling "#entitled." She finished the run by saying "I'm just kidding, none of that ever happened." So who knows.

Either way, all signs seem to point to Weinberg as the new skinsman for Slipknot. We don't know if that means he recorded for the band's new album, .5: The Gray Chapter, as there are still rumors flying around that Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler handled recording (despite him denying just that).

All that said, Against Me! was the last place we'd look for a Joey Jordison replacement.

There's been less interest in who'll be playing bass in place of the deceased Paul Gray, but many are reporting it will be Alessandro Venturella, a guitar tech who's worked with Mastodon and Coheed and Cambria

Stay tuned.
