Jim Jones believes Jay-Z did not fully unleash his lyrical power during the freestyle that recently sparked widespread discussion across the hip-hop community. Speaking on a recent episode of his YouTube show "IFC News," the Harlem rapper shared his view on Jay-Z's much-talked-about "Roots Picnic Freestyle."
According to Jones, the rap icon intentionally held back despite delivering lines that generated major reactions from fans and artists.
"I will say this," Jones said. "Outta everything I've heard — from my experiences and seeing him engaged throughout the years — he spared them a little bit. He didn't even hit them with too much." Jones added that while Jay-Z may have eased up, he still made an impact.
"He still managed to obliterate a lot of people. But let's see what happens. A callout is a callout. You say somebody's name, it goes on forever, no matter who starts it."
According to Billboard, the former Roc-A-Fella affiliate believes the freestyle was only a preview of what is coming next.
Jay-Z is scheduled to begin a three-show run at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx next month, and Jones expects an even bigger lyrical moment there.
"I wanna see the Yankee Stadium freestyle," he said. Jones said he expects Jay-Z to "turn up" during his Yankee Stadium run. He characterized the Roots Picnic freestyle as a warm-up and predicted that the upcoming performances could become one of the rapper's most talked-about moments in recent years.

Jim Jones Wants Cam'ron Battle in Harlem
Jones has a unique perspective on Jay-Z because of their shared history. During the early 2000s, Jones and fellow Diplomats members Cam'ron and Juelz Santana were signed to Roc-A-Fella and supported Jay-Z during his famous rivalry with Nas.
Later, Jones found himself on the opposite side after publicly criticizing Jay-Z's leadership at Def Jam, leading to a musical exchange between the two.
Meanwhile, Jones is also making headlines for reigniting his long-running feud with Cam'ron. Over Memorial Day weekend, he challenged his former Dipset partner to a Verzuz battle in Harlem through Instagram, Complex reported.
Referencing The Diplomats' 2021 Verzuz loss to The LOX, Jones wrote, "Tell ya mans I wanna do a verse against him." He also urged organizers to make the event happen and added, "Let's settle this once n for all."
