What do you do when you are a popular singer who likes to stir up controversy and fly in the face of established rules? Well, if you are Sinead O'Connoryou decide to channel your energy and candor into a tell-all memoir. Penguin Random House imprint Blue Rider Press announced Tuesday, Oct. 7, that the Irish rocker has inked a book deal that will include "sexual dirt" stemming from four marriages and 25 years in the music industry — and fans are turned off by that.

O'Connor has described herself as "three-quarters heterosexual and one-quarter gay" and seems to be using this personal detail to create buzz about her as-yet untitled book, scheduled for release in March 2016. The singer is known for being confrontational and was all but blackballed for tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul II during an appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1992.

The reaction to the press release about her book is not necessarily sitting well, either.

Even O'Connor's fans have voiced displeasure online regarding the way the singer is using her sex life as a way to create interest in her memoir. Plus, threatening to give up explosive details about her various lovers makes this venture sound more like tabloid fodder than a legitimate look at the life of a woman who has struggled in the music industry for decades.

Many believe O'Connor has a real story to tell, but it has nothing to do with her scandalous sex life. She survived an unstable childhood while growing up in Ireland and has used her personal controversies to help propell her career for years.

Do you think promising to reveal "sexual dirt" will boost O'Connor's sales, something she is obviously hoping for, or will it end up working against her? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
