Last month, El-P and Killer Mike's Run The Jewels announced a number of ridiculous fake pre-order packages for their upcoming album RTJ2. One of them was a package called "Meow the Jewels," which was described as a remixed version of RTJ2 "using nothing but cat sounds for music." One fan decided he would make a Kickstarter to raise the $40,000 needed to purchase the package, and because El-P has a sense of humor, he agreed to take on the project if it got funded. Surprisingly, it actually did reach its funding goal, and El-P has kept his word.

The Kickstarter campaign surpassed the goal of $40,000 and has now raised $47,711. This afternoon, El-P announced, "WE DID IT, YOU CRAZY MOTHERF**KERS." He also pledged to give his proceeds from the project to the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

El-P and Killer Mike aren't the only once taking part in this bizarre album. Zola Jesus, Just Blaze, Baauer, Portishead's Geoff Barrow, the Alchemist, Boots, Dan the Automator, and more have committed their time and talents to bringing this thing to life.

Just Blaze also agreed to release a kit of all the drums he used from 2001 to 2005 once the goal was reached.

Other than the satisfaction of knowing this thing exists, backers will receive a variety of goodies based on how much they gave, such as a digital copy of the album, Meow The Jewels merch, a bag of MTJ catnip, the opportunity for the backer's cat to be sampled and put on the album, the opportunity to produce one of the tracks, and a limited-edition MTJ autographed by Killer Mike and EL-P (and "maybe a cat").

While you await the sure-to-be-legendary Meow The Jewels, check out RTJ2 when it's released October 27.
