If you haven’t heard by now, the government is shutting down starting today — for the first time in 17 years. Republicans wanted to undo Obamacare. Democrats wouldn't (and couldn't) let them. The House (with a Republican majority) added previsions to the national budget that wouldn’t allow money to be spent on Obamacare. The Senate (with a Democrat majority) wouldn’t pass the budget with those anti-Obamacare provisions. And back and forth the two parties went until, whoops, no budget was passed in time. At least that’s the gist of it.

To lighten the mood, Music Times has created a playlist of songs about the government shutdown. Some songs were chosen based on title, some on content, and others on their ability to be a metaphor for the current situation. So sit back, relax (especially if you’ve been furloughed), and listen to these tracks while our government goes on vacation.
