Two performers with very similar names have both made announcements in the last week that will excite fans. Queens rapper Prodigy and British electronic-rockers The Prodigy have both made news, but whose is the hotter headline? Music Times brings you up to date with stars that built renown and notoriety during the '90s.

Prodigy

Prodigy, half of the rap duo Mobb Deep, gave details this week regarding a new release this week from himself and Havoc, the group's other half.

This is a big deal for hip-hop fans, as things had gotten ugly between the two following the group's breakup in 2011. Havoc claimed that the shots he took at Prodigy on Twitter were the result of his account being hacked, but later admitted he was responsible. He also planned a diss track to be titled "Same S--- Different Day" about his former coworker, but the song didn't end up appearing on his 2013 release 13.

The duo saw the light awfully quick, and hit the studio earlier this year, working on a yet untitled album. Prodigy said the album would throw back to the group's 1995 LP The Infamous, and not "chase whatever trend in music."

The Prodigy

The Prodigy, one of the biggest bands to emerge from the "Big Beat" electronic music movement in England, has recently announced a couple of big shows for the end of the year/during 2014. First, the band was introduced as the headliner for the April Snowbombing electronic music festival in Austria, and on Monday the band declared it would be celebrating New Year's Eve with a show at the O2 Arena in London.

What does this mean for American fans? Maybe nothing, maybe plenty.

The O2 show will be the group's first non-festival gig since June of 2012, and may indicate that a headlining tour is in the works. For now it seems that the band will remain in Europe at least through April, but having gone all over Europe and Australia since it last visited the States in 2011, they may be primed for a return. Plus, there's still no official release date for How To Steal A Jetfighter, which was anticipated for late 2013. The new album may be rolling out soon.

More Hypeworthy:

For now, we're going to stick with Prodigy. Although the potential for a tour from The Prodigy is exciting, the details we've gotten the former are more concrete at the moment.
