Hailing from North Carolina, Daniel Levi Goans and Lauren Plank Goans make up the husband-and-wife folk duo of Lowland Hum. At the end of 2013, they set out to record a full-length album to follow up their debut album as a duo, Native Air. However, the three songs that came out of their sessions felt so connected that they decided to release them as a separate EP, which they called Four Sisters.

"When we started recording the first [song], it just had a different sound than a lot of the other stuff we were writing, then all the songs had the same characters," Daniel told us about the project. "Then Lauren got this idea for these videos to accompany the songs. So it became sort of this fully formed thing that all hung together."

The project was accompanied (as mentioned above) by a series of videos that explored themes within the record and reflected those emotions and stories in a visual way, using public domain footage and home movies.

While in New York City, the couple stopped by Music Times for our Studio Sessions to tell us details about the project, the story of how they met, the origin of their musical partnership, their songwriting process, what it's like being married and performing music together, what the future holds for them, and more. They also treated us to a stripped-down performance of Four Sisters: Part 1.
