Last night, Trinidad Jame$ released a 5-track EP titled The Wake Up EP via Soundcloud. Following the Twitter announcement that he was dropped by Def Jam back in August, Trinidad Jame$ has kept his word in releasing the EP with the free download option enabled.

His tweet from August 2, 2014 has since been deleted but read, "I should tell yall. I got dropped by the Label. My Album is now free. If u hear ur beat or verse on it. I hope u want dap cuz i got no money."

Trinidad Jame$, following being dropped by Def Jam, told Billboard, "I'm gonna continue to be me — the same thing that got me to where I'm at right now."

The 5-track EP features quite the contrasts in mood, with the instrumental opener, "Lost In My Dreams," and the club-ready track, "HAVE A Good Day," to close out the EP.

Much like as in a recent interview with Hip Hop Wired, Trinidad James has been reflecting on the world of hip hop and stating his opinions, as well as his role, and this is a theme throughout the EP, especially as seen in "Get Dre$ed ft. 31."

"Life, rap. It's a game. Reality is not a game. Life ain't sh-t like the rap game" is the beginning of a stream of conscious revelation on "Get Dre$$ed ft. 31," asking fellow rappers, "Are you tryna make a change or you tryna get a chain? I'm just asking."

Trinidad Jame$ goes on to touch on the state of rap today, as well as his relation and motives in the genre, stating, "I ain't never change since I started rapping," and "I just wanna burn in the flames and live through the ashes."

The EP is experimental by nature, both with Trinidad Jame$ self-releasing it and with the music itself, such as his choices in collaborators, his vocal range and approach, as well as experimenting with the varied moods in production.

Check out the EP below and post in the comments if you think this could be Trinidad's best release to date!
