Maynard James Keenan has made an announcement and yes-it will be a concert compiling performances from bands he's been involved with but no-Tool will not be involved. So as grumbly as we are about that last aspect, it still sounds like a pretty sweet gig. We shouldn't complain about shows involving both A Perfect Circle and Puscifer (plus Failure). The show will go down at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on May 10 (his real birthday is April 17). Tickets will go on sale Friday, although prices haven't been released as of yet.

Keenan serves as vocalist in both A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. The former is equal parts the brainchild of the birthday boy and guitarist Billy Howerdel, whereas Puscifer is more-or-less Keenan's solo project, as he's the only permanent member. A Perfect Circle recently released several compilations, one live and one "greatest hits" style, and Puscifer last released an album with 2011's Conditions of My Parole, although remixes and an EP have been released since.

Perhaps more exciting overall is the performance by Failure. The experimental rock band came to prominence during the early '90s with cult favorites such as Magnified and Fantastic Planet. The band split during 1997, and it was recently announced that the group would do several Los Angeles-area shows, beginning with a gig at El Rey on February 13. Keenan himself certainly seemed excited for Failure's appearance.

"This was the perfect opportunity to tick off one of my bucket list items in the form of a Failure reunion," he said in a statement. "What better birthday present could one ever hope for?"

We speak only for ourselves, but a surprise appearance by Tool wouldn't disappoint us at all.
