The new Instrument 1 by Artiphon is one impressive gadget. The device is essentially a multi-instrument that recreates the sounds made by guitars, drums, pianos, violins and many other instruments. It can be played in any position as well and has been marketed as something for musical experts and novices alike, Consequence of Sound notes.

"Our goal is to create the most effortless music-making experience at any skill level. Music isn't about gear; it's about self-expression. Every aspect of the INSTRUMENT 1 can be customized to behave the way you want it to. Tune it all to E-major if you like, adjust the sensitivity, or forget strumming altogether and let it auto-play the notes you press," developer Mike Butera wrote about the device on its Kickstarter page.

The crowd-funded campaign has been a successful venture for the business. Artiphon created the Kickstarter page last week with a goal set at $75,000, which it reached in a matter of hours. As of the writing of this piece, 1,345 backers contributed more than $500,000 to the project. The video below explains why.

The Instrument 1 looks like "a spaceship," one tester says. People in the clip play around with the device, which really gives the viewer a feel for what it's like. There looks to be so many possibilities for musicians who use the Instrument 1, especially with its ability to play different sounds at the same time. It also connects to smartphones, tablets and computers where users can record music using different apps like GarageBand.

"We believe anyone can make music, and that most people really want to. Like snapping an Instagram, now you don't have to already be a professional to start making music and enjoy every note. We're building an instrument that empowers people to play music apps beyond the touchscreen, and we want to inspire people to explore music-making in their everyday lives," the Kickstarter page reads.

There are a number of donation levels that come with different rewards. For $349, you can be one of the first people to own an Instrument 1 before it hits the market. The devices are set to ship next January.
