Legendary rock guitarist Brian May is having quite the health scare. The Queen band member has announced that he is undergoing "urgent tests" for cancer screening after experiencing some terrible back pain.

According to a blog post on his official website on Dec. 28, May has been experiencing bad back pains, and while it was initially thought to be his muscles readjusting after knee replacement surgery, the pain increased for several weeks before Christmas, until he was unable to go anywhere that required standing or walking.

"My GP decided to try to get to the bottom of it, and sent me for a set of MRI scans. Well, that's when it all became a "Health Scare" (something like a Spooky Mormon Hell Dream ...) The scans showed up all kinds of mechanical disc and vertebra problems that might be the cause of the pain, but there were also some abnormalities in the bones - things that the report said needed urgent attention," he wrote. "So around Christmas I've been having a succession of blood tests, ultrasounds, and various kinds of scans, to see if they could rule out various kinds of cancer."

Though doctors have been unable to find any cancers thus far and have ruled out "a lot of nasty things," May stated he's still in the "scare" stage of his health crisis.

May is optimistic that doctors will be able to figure out the cause of his problems soon and he can be "thinking of other things" by this time next week.

The health scare comes with a particular weight for May because his father passed away from cancer at age 66, the exact age the guitarist is today.
