The National has dropped a surprise single "Sunshine on My Back" today, April 2. It is the first piece of new music the Brooklyn outfit has released since its sixth studio album Trouble Will Find Me in 2013. According to Consequence of Sound, the tune did not make the group's last album, and it features vocal work from songstress Sharon Van Etten.

Fans who download the band's new movie Mistaken for Strangers will receive "Sunshine on My Back" as a free gift. Check out the song below via Spotify.

Mistaken for Strangers follows the band on the road in 2010 in support of High Violet. It was filmed by frontman Matt Berninger's brother Tom.

"What starts as a rock documentary soon becomes a surprisingly honest portrait of a charged relationship between two brothers, and the frustration of unfulfilled creative ambitions," the website reads.

In an interview with The Dissolve, Matt explained that he asked his younger brother to come on tour out of pity and guilt. After graduating college, Tom found himself living at home with his parents in between jobs. He worked as the band's assistant tour manager, but his partying got in the way. Tom was eventually fired, but all the footage he shot turned into another job.

"I knew Tom had shot tons and tons of stuff, most of which was probably useless and humiliating for both of us, but I wanted him to get something out of it. I never expected it to be what it has turned into, and I'm so happy," Matt said.
