Having appeared for a total of 20 times on the Late Show with David Letterman since it began airing in 1993, Tina Fey decided to make her last attendance a memorable one by stripping down to her spandex and giving Letterman the blue and black dress off her back.

Although a slew of celebrities will be dropping by the stage to wish Letterman well as he leaves the show in a week and a half, Fey has her very own way of saying goodbye in true comedic fashion.

"I realize that when you retire, this is it. I'm never going to wear a fancy dress on a talk show again. First of all, it's very hard work -- I don't know if you're aware of the contraptions under here, it's almost medical. And I'm terrible in heels. And I've realized that I dress up like this just for you."

As USA Today reports, Fey proclaimed her final Late Show would be the last time she "conformed to gender norms." With Letterman's soon departure, Fey ponders who she would possibly need to impress? Certainly not hosts for The Tonight Show or The Late Late Show.

"What, am I going to put a dress on for Jimmy [Fallon]?" Fey asked, notes Today. "That's creepy. He's like my brother. I'm going to wear special underwear for James Corden? That's not going to happen."

To show her undying admiration and respect for Lettermen, Fey dropped the embellished, not-white-and-gold dress to the ground in front of endless pairs of eyes, only to reveal a stomach-smoothing spandex outfit adorned with the words "Bye Dave" on the front and "#LastDressEver" along the backside. Unable to wipe a smile from his face, Letter exclaimed "God bless you, my dear," as he lovingly kissed her hand.

The final episode of CBS' the Late Show with David Letterman will air on May 20.
