Most music fans are familiar with the major music festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza that showcase the biggest bands in the world. However, there are plenty of smaller local festival that showcase mid-level, up-and-coming and local acts that will be the next wave of headliners at those major, big-ticket festivals. New York City has countless music events happening every weekend, notably during the summer, and in three weeks, Northside Festival will be taking over Brooklyn with a combination of speakers, films and music. The festival just announced the majority of the artists who will be performing this year including Best Coast, Run The Jewels, Zola Jesus and Vince Staples.

More artists on the bill include Built To Spill, Sleigh Bells, DJ Premier (who is arriving with a full live band), Heems, Lemaitre, Questlove with a DJ set, Ryan Hemsworth, Viet Cong and many others.

The entire festival takes place over a week from June 8-14, while the music portion occurs from June 11-14 at various venues around Williamsburg. Among the spots that will host shows include the Brooklyn Bowl, Palisades, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Knitting Factory and Rough Trade.

There will also be free shows at McCarren Park, where the festival has its home base for the week.

In addition to the music, there will be showings of films over three days from June 8-10 at four different Williamsburg venues -- Nitehawk Cinemas, UnionDocs, Videology and the Wythe Hotel.

There will also be two days (June 11-12) of over 150 speakers in various areas of media, technology and other creative spheres that range from companies like Gawker to Linkedin to Fanduel.

Tickets can be purchased for either single events, specific parts of the festival, like just the music, film or speakers, or the entire thing. Music passes can be acquired for under $100, so head to Northside's website to grab yours.
