Dinosaur Jr. bassist Lou Barlow has released a stripped down acoustic song titled "Wave" off his forthcoming solo album Brace The Wave.

The song is a soft-spoken love song with a pulsing acoustic clicking that keeps the song moving throughout. In fact the whole album was recorded without drums, in what is a welcome shift from Barlow's usual fast pace punk tunes in Dinosaur Jr., which have come to define a generation of indie punk. You can listen to the single here

Brace The Wave is Barlow's latest solo endeavor since 2009's Goodnight Unknown. The new album arrives on Sept. 4, under Joyful Noise.

As Consequence of Sound reports, Barlow released the first single, "Moving," last week, which is a slow droning song recorded off the cuff with a detuned ukulele.

Barlow also teased the release of Brace the Wave with a new album trailer. Though trailers are usually a way to feed the hype beasts without ever giving fans something of substance. But, this is one worth watching. Barlow's sense of humor and distaste for the rules of the music industry shine through.

"Review says Brace The Wave is a triumph of physical coordination," Barlow groans over the video. It would be hard to imagine something, somewhere quite this as this is. Six hands out of seven and a half.

"Brace The Wave is an acoustic electric record, recorded with electricity on analog digital, and digitally analog equipment," Barlow continues.

Plus, there's an adorable fluffy cat in the trailer.
