Canadian synth pop four piece Metric recently released "Fortunes," an undeniably catchy track off their forthcoming LP Pagans in Vegas. Set to drop September 18th via Universal, the group, fronted by singer-songwriter Emily Haines, previously shared the equally memorable songs "The Shade," "Cascades," and "Too Bad, So Sad," in advance of their full length follow up to 2012's Synthetica.

Haines, the band's lead singer and former collaborator with the famed indie outfit Broken Social Scene, reflected on the creative process that led to "Fortunes" in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I found writing it was from a place of anxiety, and the sense that it was too late to leave and searching for the community or the culture or the scene that you're part of wherever you live," she stated. "Is it finite? Is it over and you didn't notice? Is it there and you're not in it?"

Viable questions for a performer whose career began in the latter '90s, the track's introspection meshes seamlessly with its attention grabbing instrumentation. A somewhat revamp of the sound that initially put Metric on the blogosphere's radar, the band's latest track lyrically explores a narrative territory that assuredly resonates with listeners. Included on the lengthy bill of performers for Philadelphia's annual Made In America Festival, Metric plans to play a few North American shows before heading to the UK for the mid fall leg of their tour in support of their sixth studio album.
